Hill Country Land Clearing, Built Around Hill Country Ground

The Texas Hill Country is hard on land. Thin soil sits over limestone, caliche shows up a few inches down, and Ashe juniper will take over a pasture in a handful of growing seasons if nobody stops it. From the Balcones Escarpment at New Braunfels to the ridges above Canyon Lake and the ranch country toward Blanco, most properties we see share some mix of cedar, rock and slope.

That’s the ground our land clearing services in the Texas Hill Country are built for. We run a skid steer with a forestry mulching drum that clears cedar, mesquite and brush in a single pass and leaves the mulch on the ground to protect the soil. When caliche is in the way, we follow up with rock milling instead of bringing in a second contractor. Nothing gets burned and nothing gets hauled.

The Mulching Marine is a family-run, Marine veteran-owned company based in Fischer, near the middle of our service area. Paul runs the equipment on every job, and Laura handles quotes, scheduling and financing. We cover property owners within about 40 miles across Comal, Hays, Kendall, Blanco, Bexar and Guadalupe counties.

County-by-County Land Clearing Coverage

Land Clearing in Comal County

Comal County is our home county and where we work most often. Fischer, Canyon Lake, Spring Branch, Sattler, New Braunfels and Bulverde are all here. There's generally no county permit to clear brush on rural acreage, but county burn bans come on during drought, and New Braunfels and Bulverde each have their own tree permits inside city limits. Comal County is also a qualifying county for the Texas A&M Forest Service fuel reduction grant.

Land Clearing in Hays County

From Wimberley and the Devil's Backbone up to Dripping Springs, Hays County is fast-growing cedar country. Rural acreage generally needs no clearing permit, but Hays County requires fire marshal burn permits for some burns even outside a ban, which makes mulching in place the simpler route. Dripping Springs protects heritage trees of 18 inches and up inside city limits. Hays County also qualifies for the fuel reduction grant.

Land Clearing in Kendall County

Kendall County means Boerne, Fair Oaks Ranch and ranch land toward Sisterdale and Kendalia. It's live oak country, and owners here usually want selective clearing that removes the cedar and keeps the oaks. Rural acreage needs no county clearing permit, burn bans are common in dry years, and Boerne regulates trees from 8 inches up inside city limits.

Land Clearing in Blanco County

Out along RR 32 toward Blanco, properties get bigger and the cedar gets thicker. Blanco County is mostly unincorporated with few city-level tree rules. The work here is mostly large-acreage mulching, ranch roads, ATV trails and firebreaks. County burn bans still apply during drought.

Land Clearing in Bexar County

We serve the north edge of Bexar County, around Timberwood Park and the US 281 corridor. Inside San Antonio and its extraterritorial jurisdiction, the city requires a tree permit or tree affidavit before clearing vegetation, so check that before scheduling. Much of this area also sits over the Edwards Aquifer, where TCEQ rules govern development.

Land Clearing in Guadalupe County

On the east side of our radius, Guadalupe County covers communities like Seguin and Schertz and the eastern edge of New Braunfels. The ground shifts from Hill Country rock toward prairie here, and the work leans toward pasture reclamation, brush clearing and field mowing. As anywhere, check city limits and county burn ban status before a project.

Why Hill Country Property Owners Choose The Mulching Marine

A Marine Veteran on Every Job

Paul is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who operates the equipment himself on every project, from a quarter-acre lot to a large ranch tract. Laura handles quotes, scheduling and financing.

One Method That Fits Hill Country Ground

Forestry mulching clears in one pass without burning or hauling, and leaves the soil covered on the region's thin, rocky ground. It also means a burn ban never holds your project up.

Rock Milling In-House

Caliche is everywhere in the Hill Country. We clear and mill with our own equipment, so you don't have to coordinate a second contractor to deal with the rock.

Certified Grant-Ready Contractor

We're a certified Grant-Ready Contractor for the Texas A&M Forest Service Mechanical Fuel Reduction Grant. Qualifying landowners in counties like Comal and Hays may be eligible for up to $6,000 toward mulching.

Some do. Rural acreage in Comal, Hays, Blanco and Kendall counties generally needs no clearing permit, but city limits change that. New Braunfels, Boerne, Dripping Springs, Bulverde and San Antonio all regulate tree removal. Burn bans are set county by county, and Hays County also requires fire marshal permits for some burns. We point out anything we notice during the walkthrough.

Yes. The wooded parcels along RR 32 between Fischer, Wimberley and Blanco are some of the most common properties we work on. They typically need cedar mulching, driveway and trail cutting, and firebreaks, often with rock milling where limestone runs close to the surface.

The Texas A&M Forest Service Mechanical Fuel Reduction Grant covers a list of qualifying counties that includes Comal and Hays. Eligible properties generally have at least one acre of heavy cedar or undergrowth, sit in or near a wildland-urban interface area, and haven’t used the grant in the past three years.
